Newcomers are always welcome to audition for The Edinburgh
Singers, a long-established, independent
choir attracting singers of all ages and from every walk of
life. We are always on the look out for enthusiastic and talented
singers, and are particularly seeking to recruit Tenors at this
time.
How many concerts do we
sing?
We typically perform four concerts a year (autumn, Christmas,
spring and summer), with occasional extras, such as Concert Tours
abroad, Carol Singing for charity, and performing on Songs of
Praise and other TV and Radio programmes.
How often do we
rehearse?
We rehearse once a week, on a Thursday evening (7.30 - 9.30pm),
in central Edinburgh. Typically, there is also a longer, daytime
rehearsal on a weekend before each main concert. In
addition, each section (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) arranges
sectional rehearsals from time to time. Any extra performances
will have dedicated rehearsals by arrangement.
How do I
join?
We aim to audition new singers at regular points throughout the
year. Please email us on edsingersapp@gmail.com and
tell us your voice part (Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass) and a little
bit about your singing history, and we'll get in touch to arrange
an audition.
Do you need to be able to
read music?
Yes, we do expect all members to be able to read music, and to
sight-read at least a bit, so that we can learn music more
quickly.
How much does it cost?
All choir members are required to pay subscription fees to help
cover the core running costs of the choir. The current fee for a
full choir year (September - June) is £170, or £100 for students
and the unwaged (subscription fees are pro rata for new singers
joining part way through the choir year).
