Rachmaninov All-Night Vigil

12 November 2016

St Mary's Cathedral, Palmerston Place, Edinburgh

Sometimes known as the Rachmaninov Vespers, this setting of the eastern Orthodox vigil was one of the composer's favourites among his own works, and is widely considered to be his greatest. Under the baton of Musical Director Alistair Digges, the Edinburgh Singers performed the entirety of this breathtakingly beautiful unaccompanied piece, including both the evening Vespers and the morning Matins, in the stunning surroundings of St Mary's Cathedral.
