Immortal Bach
Saturday, November 2, 2019
Saturday 2nd November at 7.30pm
St Mary's Cathedral, Palmerston Place
The focus of our concert was Bach - JS Bach, for
chorus and for cello along with other members of the Bach family as
well as Bach as reimagined by Knut Nystedt, in the piece
which gives us our concert title - "Immortal
Bach". We also presented Sir John Tavener's
emotionally charged "Svyati", and brought our concert to a stunning
close with Ēriks Ešenvalds' "In Paradisum".
The choir was thrilled that renowned cellist Su-a Lee
joined us to start our new season of concerts. After graduating
from the Julliard School, Seoul-born Su-a moved to Scotland to take
up the role of Assistant Principal Cello with the Scottish Chamber
Orchestra, a position she continues to hold. She is also very much
in demand as a soloist and chamber music performer of extraordinary
variety. We are very pleased that Su-a's Scottish Chamber
Orchestra colleague, Brian Schiele joined us for our final
work.
The concert was performed in the atmospheric St Mary's
Cathedral, providing a rich acoustic for music of such
depth.
